What building a pool actually involves

Building a pool right is a sequence, and each step protects the next.

It starts with a site survey and design: size, depth, shape, where the plant room goes, and how the pool sits against the building and the water table. Then excavation and steel, where the reinforcement cage is tied to spec, not eyeballed. Then the shell, usually sprayed concrete, gunite or shotcrete, shaped and cured properly rather than rushed off to the next job.

Then the part nobody sees, and everything depends on it: waterproofing. After that comes tiling or plaster, coping, and the surround. Then the MEP: pumps, filtration, plumbing, and electrics, all sized for your pool, not guessed. We test, fill, balance the water, and hand over.

Skip or rush any one of those steps and the pool tells on you within a year.

Pools built for Dubai, not a brochure

Dubai is hard on pools. Summer water hits bath temperature, evaporation runs high, and the ground and the water bill both punish a lazy design.

So we plan for it. We size filtration and circulation for real Dubai load. We fit chillers where you want the pool usable in July, and heating where you want it through the short winter. We plan the water top-up and the covers that cut evaporation, because the running cost of a pool matters as much as the build. And on plots near the coast we account for a high water table and salt, which quietly wreck a pool designed for somewhere cooler.

Rooftop, podium and skyscraper pools

Pools on structures are a different job. Weight, waterproofing, and coordination with the main building all get harder the higher you go. We work with structural engineers and MEP consultants so the pool load, the falls, and the drainage sit inside the building design, not on top of it as an afterthought. On podium decks and terraces, the waterproofing detail at the pool edge is where most rooftop leaks begin, so that is where we spend the time.

Hotels, corporates and ventures

Commercial pools get used hard and inspected harder. Hotel and corporate pools have to meet health and safety rules, take heavy bather loads, and keep running while the property stays open. We build to that standard and plan the plant, the circulation, and the access so maintenance does not mean closing the pool for a week. For ventures and developments, the pool is part of the sell, so it has to look right in the render and still pass a real inspection once it is built.

The part most contractors skip: waterproofing

Waterproofing is where cheap pools fail. A leak behind the tile does not announce itself. It seeps into the structure, the ground, and eventually your neighbour's plot, and by the time you see it the fix means breaking out finishes you already paid for. We treat waterproofing as a stage in its own right, with the right membrane, proper detailing at the joints and fittings, and a water test before anything gets tiled over. It is not glamorous. It is the single thing that decides whether your pool lasts.

Finishes and options that actually matter

The finish is where people spend, and some of it is worth it. Tiles, mosaic, or plaster change both the look and the upkeep. A saltwater system is gentler on skin and eyes than chlorine and easier to run day to day, though it still needs the right materials around it. LED lighting, jets, and a heated spa are add-ons, not the foundation. We will tell you which choices earn their cost on your plot and which just inflate the quote.

After we hand over

A pool is not finished at the first swim. Water chemistry, filtration, and the plant all need looking after, or the pool turns green and the equipment wears out early. We give you a maintenance plan and can run it for you or brief your team: filter checks, water balancing, and small fixes before they become pump replacements. An ignored pool costs far more than a maintained one.

Choosing a swimming pool construction contractor in Dubai

Not every pool company is a real contractor. Some sell you a design and subcontract the hard part to whoever is cheapest that month. Before you sign, ask a few things. Who actually builds it, their crew or a sublet one. How they waterproof, and whether they water-test before tiling. Whether they handle the authority approvals and the MEP, or leave you chasing them. And can they show you a pool they built over a year ago that still holds water and looks clean.
